Title: Vice President of Strategic Development
Reports to: President and Chief of Staff
Job Summary: The Vice President of Strategic Development guides and implements the organization’s annual fundraising plan based on existing and future funding priorities, and provides strategic counsel on overall institutional communications that relate to development efforts and the recruitment of new supporters. The Vice President is responsible for developing long-term philanthropic relationships with donors, soliciting major donors for annual and planned gifts, managing development staff, and planning and coordinating strategic steps to reach our goals.
Job Duties:
- Solicit major and planned gifts in one-on-one meetings with donors or in conjunction with other staff members or trustees
- Oversee donor recruitment activities and staff the organization’s board committees
- Oversee and improve donor upgrade, acquisition, and retention strategy
- Provide counsel and guidance on organization’s institutional marketing and communications from a donor perspective
- Effectively manage development team to ensure specific dollar and relationship-building goals are met
- Execute organization’s annual event in a manner that achieves financial goals and builds key donor relationships
- Monitor and measure the effectiveness of solicitations (both verbal and written)
- Maintain a good working knowledge of the organization’s programs and funding priorities
- Engage key board members and staff to meet goals
Skill Factors:
Education: BS/BA or equivalent experience
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in running development campaigns, including, direct major gift solicitations, or equivalent experience in strategic planning and persuasive communications; experience managing a development office
Communications: Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills; strong writing skills; ability to effectively communicate organization’s mission and specific program-related objectives to several different constituents; ability to work in a team environment
Salary: Commensurate with experience
